Clark S40SD Specifications
The Clark S40SD is a diesel-powered forklift that
delivers exceptional power, durability, and efficiency for heavy-duty
operations. Its core strength lies in the robust Kubota V3800-CR-TE5 diesel
engine, a four-cylinder turbocharged powerplant with intercooler providing
substantial torque and reliability for continuous use. The engine incorporates
advanced emission control technologies including a Diesel Particulate Filter
(DPF) and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), meeting EU Stage 5 emission
regulations without requiring additional additives.
Operator comfort and safety are prioritized through features like hydrostatic
power steering eliminating steering kick-back, an auto-engaging electric parking
brake with rollback protection on gradients and ramps, and maintenance-free wet
disc service brakes. The S40SD is designed for productive operation across
various applications with low operating costs.
This model is equipped with clear-view uprights available in Standard, Hi-lo,
and Triplex versions featuring double primary cylinders on Hi-lo and Triplex
uprights for very clear visibility. It rolls on heavy-duty pneumatic tires with
standard front tire size 8.25x15-14 PR and rear tire size 7.00x12-14 PR. The
truck's fundamental design incorporates a robust steering axle with pivotal
bearings in mounted rubber steel mounting.
The distance from the centre of the drive axle to the fork face is 22.2 in (563
mm), supported by a wheelbase of 76.8 in (1,950 mm). The total service weight of
the truck is approximately 13,300 lb (6,039 kg). When fully laden, the axle load
distribution places approximately 19,420 lb (8,803 kg) on the front axle and
2,390 lb (1,084 kg) on the rear axle. In an unladen state, the front axle load
is
6,120 lb (2,774 kg), and the rear axle load is 7,200 lb (3,265 kg).
The Clark S40SD is powered by the Kubota V3800-CR-TE5
diesel engine, a robust and reliable powerplant specifically designed for
heavy-duty industrial operation. It is a four-cylinder, turbocharged engine with
intercooler and a total displacement of 230 cu in (3.8 L). This engine produces
a rated power of 74.3 hp (55.4 kW) at 2,200 rpm.
The engine meets the exhaust emission regulations within the EU (Euro emission
stage 5) and incorporates a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and DOC (Diesel
Oxidation Catalyst) with no additional additives required. Lubrication is
provided by a pressure-fed system ensuring all moving components are adequately
lubricated. Cooling is managed by a liquid-cooled system designed to maintain
optimal operating temperatures even under continuous, demanding use.
The drivetrain of the S40SD is engineered for heavy
loads, precise control, and long-term durability.
Transmission: It is fitted with a single-speed, full-reversing Powershift
transaxle with high stall ratio industrial torque converter. The transmission
incorporates shift protection function to reduce the effects of gearshifts when
changing direction.
Travel Speed: The forklift achieves a laden travel speed of 13.7 mph (22.0 km/h)
and an unladen travel speed of 13.0 mph (21.0 km/h).
Axles: The drive axle is located at the front. The rear steer axle is robust
with pivotal bearings in mounted rubber steel mounting.
Brakes: The service brake system utilizes maintenance-free wet disc brakes. The
brakes are power-assisted for easier operation with more effect. A
power-assisted service brake provides easier operation with more effect, while
an auto-engaging electric parking brake with rollback protection on gradients
and ramps prevents unintentional rolling away or back.
The electrical system is engineered to reliably support
the engine, safety features, and lighting. It operates on a standard 12-volt
architecture. The interactive 5" colour display can be password-protected,
allowing only authorized users to change truck settings. The on-board
diagnostics allow operators to remain informed of service needs and address any
issues quickly and efficiently.
The display includes truck monitoring
functions, various hour meters, and warning indicators. The powertrain
protection monitoring system helps safeguard the truck against
overheating. The auto-engaging electric parking brake activates
automatically when the operator leaves the truck, and driving against
the brake is not possible when activated.
The chassis provides a rigid and durable foundation,
constructed from heavy-gauge steel with fully welded frame construction to
support all major components under heavy load stress.
Wheels and Tires: The S40SD is fitted with heavy-duty pneumatic tires. Available
with dual tyres on the drive axle to improve traction and stability when
cornering, particularly useful when transporting very wide loads.
Front: 8.25x15-14 PR
Rear: 7.00x12-14 PR
Track Width:
Front: 45.1 in (1,145 mm) standard, up to 51.7 in (1,314 mm) with dual tyres
Rear: 44.6 in (1,134 mm)
Drive Configuration: The vehicle utilizes a 2-wheel drive configuration, with
the two front wheels serving as the driven wheels.
The steering system on the Clark S40SD is a hydrostatic power steering system
that eliminates steering kick-back. This provides the operator with
exceptionally smooth and effortless control during low-speed maneuvering and in
confined spaces. A priority distributor in the hydraulic system ensures steering
priority in all conditions.
The hydraulic system is responsible for powering the
lifting, tilting, and any auxiliary functions. It utilizes a full-flow reverse
filter which filters the oil to the tank at each reverse flow. Rough particles
are filtered directly via a suction filter, thereby preventing them from
entering the oil circuit, ensuring a long service life for all hydraulic
components. A high-capacity pump provides adequate oil supply for the upright
and the hydrostatic steering.
The system operating pressure for attachments is up to 2,030 psi (140 bar). The
main hydraulic pump has a rated flow of up to 9.2 gpm (35 L/min) for
attachments. Load handling is controlled via a load sensitive-response and
precise control valve. A safety valve provides extra safety and prevents an
uncontrolled lowering of the load at all times. The mast tilts forward by 8
degrees and backward by 10 degrees.
The standard mast configuration is available as a
2-stage or 3-stage, clear-view upright design depending on application
requirements. Very clear visibility is achieved through the upright thanks to
double primary cylinders on all uprights with free lift. The hose roller is
mounted separately on the top of the chain roller for best visibility. The mast
features nested profiles, robust 6-roller fork carriage with adjustable side
rollers for durability. The tilt cylinders are mounted in spherical bearings.
Mast Height (Lowered): 88.0 in (2,234 mm). Free Lift: 6.1 in (156 mm). This
feature allows for lifting loads at low heights without increasing the overall
mast height, a valuable function when entering trailers or working under
low-clearance structures. Maximum Fork Height: 130 in (3,300 mm). Mast Height
(Extended) (with LBR): 179.2 in (4,552 mm).
